Compiled by Jazzanova and Erik Ott, this CD is an eclectic selection of Cuban music. 95 Excellent early 70's southern soul from the legendary Koko label.

There are 22 cuts including three unreleased gems. Omara Portuondo's 'Soy Cubano' is more traditional Afro Cuban Jazz, whilst Bobby Irakere's 'Juana 1600' is a beguiling mix of Cuban, Jazz and psychedelic influences and Chucho Valdes' 'Triton' is fast Afro Cuban Jazz. 95 Excellent selection from Freestyle Records, this follows from the superb first 2 volumes. The slower 'Beautiful Soul' is jazzier with a nice sax solo, as is the melodic mid tempo 'Funny', whilst 'Free Yourself' is more funky ala Rufus. 95 CD's Get 100's of classic albums for under £7. It covers the period 1971- 89 and the music has a definite 70's Fusion vibe together with a Cuban tinge such as Emiliano Salvador's 'Angelica'. Debut album from strong and distinctive voiced Cheri. He builds on that on this really nice acoustic album. LUISITO QUINTERO PERCUSSION MADDNESS REVISITED CD £12. 'Gotta B N 2 U' is a nice foot taper ,the mid tempo 'Understand Y' and ballad 'Cant Live Without You' are also good. 95 More uptempo than most recent albums Dejaye puts the funk back into new soul. 'Kings And Queens' and 'Mystery' are great upper mid tempo dancers, and the more uptempo 'Will U Be There' and 'Two And army teen sexarmy soldier One' will also work on the dancefloor. 'One Step Out' is a fine, but deep vocal spiritual Jazz journey. The mid tempo 'School Of life' , 'From A Mighty long Way' and the ballad 'If You Got To Love Somebody' and bouncy 'I Remember' and the funky soul 'Identify', 'Revelations' I Ain't Gonna Worry' are also good. 'Hold Me Up' is a nice jerky upper mid tempo track that reminds me of Ledisi, and the similar tempo 'September' will get some dancefloor action.
Blaze gives the dance feel to 'Love Remains The Same' but again their qualities compliments rather than detracts. If you like James Brown ac adapter sony vaio style Funk this comp is for you. 'Play This' and 'Better Than Not' are ludwig acrolite snare drum dancers with a Rick James feel and beat to them.

The remixes have not been submerged by dance orientated beats, allowing the subtlety and beauty of the music to breath, though the single 'Music For Gong Gong' is dancefloor heaven. , although the ballad 'One more Chance On Love' and the cover of 'Change Is Gonna Come' are also great. 95 Another 13 Boogie tracks from the early to mid 80's in this consistant series. This excellent and intriguing Sonar Kollektiv compilation documents the contribution to Latin Jazz and Soul from the state owned Cuban label Egrem/ Areito.

Includes the dancer Fabulous Determinations 'Has Love Been Here Before' plus sweet soul from Spectrum, Steptones, Chocolate Syrup, Terry Huff and Special Delivery, Spring, Charles Beverly and Larry Rice. Sandra's 1970 album is heralded as one of the best female southern soul albums and incl the mid tempo 'Rescue Song' 'Ghost Of baby book adopted child Myself' and 'My Man And Me' along with some great ballads 'After All I Am Your Wife', 'If You Get Him' and 'She Didn't Know (she Kept Talking) and the funky soul 'Some Mothers Son'. Highlights are Affair 'Please Don't Break My Heart', Laurice Hudson 'Feel My Love' , Vanessa Holmes 'Take My Love' , Khemistry 'I Cant Win For Losing', Kreamicle 'Hold On' , Clockwork 'I'm Your Candy Girl' and Eugene Wilde 'Personality'. Theres also a couple of funkier numbers from Preparations and Sho Nuff. the beautiful melodic 'Talk To Me' and 'Wind' and gentle 'Soft Places' are also highlights on this consistently good album.
